The Herd House Band

The Herd House Band is the small combo heard inside herd!, playing warm, pastoral jazz for sheep that have not agreed to hit their marks. Lyrical piano, round upright-like bass, soft pops and clicks, and the occasional vibraphone or muted-horn color move with the flock. Pasture air and silence remain full members of the rhythm section.

The personnel are less settled than the arrangements. What we can confirm is a shared book of singable themes, friendly harmony with a little more going on underneath, and a drummer-percussionist who considers one well-placed tongue click a complete fill. Every cue belongs to the same band, even as the music changes key, changes shape, or gets nervous because somebody opened the gate.

Their performances are written but not fixed. The score can respond to motion, pressure, and whatever the animals have decided to do, varying its phrasing without losing the tune. This makes the group unusually attentive and difficult to book outside the game.

There is no band photograph. They were asked to stand together and immediately formed a loose semicircle around one marked sheep.
